With the arrival of a new year inevitably comes a variety of new year’s “resolutions.” We vow to better ourselves through losing weight, quitting smoking, stop procrastinating, and so on. But how may we improve ourselves as dog owners? What new year’s resolutions should dog owners consider?
Here are 5 great ideas to get your started:
Dog Training
Training is not a luxury, it is necessary Not only will appropriate dog training make living with your dog more enjoyable for you, it will make life more enjoyable for your dog by providing him with the mental stimulation all dogs need and crave.
No More Frustration
We talk about it all the time – Fun or frustration? This year, make a resolution not to get frustrated with you pup for some of the things they do. If they’re acting out in certain ways, they are probably trying to communicate something to you. Here’s some tips on reading that communication a little bit better.
Making Time
It might require that you skip some things, or change your schedule a little bit, but find new ways to make time for your best friend. They’ll be overjoyed with the extra attention they’re getting!
Watching That Weight
It’s a resolution you’ve no doubt tried to stick to in the past. Get your pooch involved and start eating healthier together. Having your dog involved will also help you stick to your promise. Remember to speak to your vet first before changing your dog’s diet. Here are some great dog food suggestions that are healthy options.
Mix in some exercise too. We know our pooches love to walk so do it more often! Our dogs need to be walked at least once a day but there’s no reason why that can be increased. If you already walk your dog as often as you can, try taking them to different places. Dogs explore with their sense of smell and there’s no doubt they’ll appreciate the new and exciting smells you lead them to.
New Activities
Ever get tired of something you used to love to do? The same may be true for your best friend. So, this year, pick some new activities that will be both physically and mentally stimulating for your dog. I promise you’ll enjoy them too!
