These days, we rely on our technology. Whether its something we absolutely need to do our jobs, something we use to make our lives easier or more convenient, or something we use to be healthier – technology is everywhere.
More and more, dog owners are finding that there are a myriad of gadgets designed specifically for their pets as well. Here are some of our favorite innovations that we predict will soon be must-haves for every home with a canine.
Smart Collars: The smart collar looks like a normal collar, so it won’t garner much attention. However, this collar allows you to track your dog’s location like a GPS, and even transmits wellness data so you can monitor their health as well. The included app will tell you based upon your dog’s age, breed and size if he is getting enough exercise and activity. Think of it as a combination GPS / fitness tracker for your pet. Doggie Cams: Some pet owners can’t bear to be away from their furry kids, but work and life calls. Dog cams allow an owner to check in on their pet via video monitoring technology, provides a two-way talk feature so your dog can hear your voice, and even features a remote treat dispenser to reward a very good dog. These remote cameras can ease separation anxiety (for both of you) and may even allow you to reinforce training from afar. (Designed and sold by Furbo)
Dog Spots: Popping up around the country is DogSpot. (currently in 14 states including Florida, although locations are limited) DogSpots are luxury doghouses set up outside of popular businesses, allowing dog owners to run into a store or restaurant, without having to leave their dog tied up alone outside. The dog houses are roomy, temperature controlled, comfortable and equipped with webcams for users to keep an eye on their dog while inside the place of business. The dog houses are auto-sanitized in between uses and further monitored by a central corporate location. Sessions are billed by the minute.
iFetch: This tech toy was designed to assist owners who want to stay engaged with their animals while at work or away from the home. Especially attractive to those who cannot give their pets enough exercise, this automatic ball launcher is designed for small- to medium-sized dogs. Because the launcher can be set for varying distances, you can “play fetch” with your dog whether they are indoors or out. This remote interactive tool can plug into an A/C outlet, or can run on batteries if you keep it outdoors.
Microchip Pet Door: Pet owners have come up with a variety of creative ways to allow their pets in and out when they are gone – but these solutions are less than perfect. While your dog can get in and out, so can other critters. The MicroChip Pet Door is activated by a unique pet microchip, and will only open for recognized animals. You can register up to 32 animals, so all of your animals – and their friends – have unrestricted access while keeping your home secure. (Designed and sold by SureFlap)
