A condo can be a smaller space than a single-family home might offer to your dog, and you might not have as much yard space as you would with a single family home. That said, you can raise a perfectly happy and healthy dog in a condo, if you know how to help your dog love condo living. Here’s how:
1. Make sure he gets plenty of exercise
Without a large yard for your dog to run around in, you might find that your dog does not have enough space to get the exercise he needs.
Depending on your dog’s energy level, you will need to supplement your dog’s exercise routine with a walk or two each day. An especially active breed might need even more exercise.
2. Consider daycare
If you live in a dog-friendly condo community, there is probably a daycare facility nearby that can be a great place to drop of your dog if they would otherwise be left home alone for long stretches of time. Your dog will be able to socialize and burn off all of their energy before you pick him up for the evening.
3. Keep him stimulated
No matter how much of a couch potato your dog is, he will need some sort of brain stimulation in order to stay happy and healthy. Is there a place to play tug-of-war? Is there an open area or park where you could play fetch? Don’t forget to feed your dog’s mental needs, as well as his physical needs.
4. Give him his own place
Even in a small condo, try to carve out a small space that is just for your dog, with a bed big enough for him to curl up or stretch out, and where he can always find his toys, food, and water.
