The suggested location for your dogs crate may differ based on the needs of a particular dog, but here are some general guidelines that may help you and your family decide where to crate your dog.
Climate Controlled
This one almost goes without saying, but especially here in Bradenton, Florida you will want to make sure your crate is in a climate controlled area of your home. It can certainly get hot indoors depending on the section of the home. Areas near windows or balcony doors can be much warmer during the hot afternoon than others, so make sure to keep the crate somewhere not too hot.
Away from Windows
An additional reason to keep the crate away from windows is to keep your dog from doing unwanted behavior, like window barking. Keeping the crate next to a window might allow your dog to see out into the world during the day, but there’s no telling what they may see out there and react to while you’re gone.
Social Areas
There may be times where you have to crate your dog when you are home, like when you or your neighbor first brings over a new baby.
Because of this, it’s a good idea to keep the crate in typically populated areas of your home, like a living room or dining area.
Your dog will want to feel like they’re safe and with their family, and putting the crate in the back room or laundry area will defeat this quickly.

The crate is not a punishment and it shouldn’t feel as such. You have to make it a nice place to spend time for your puppy or dog before you start to crate train them.
